The Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland Clinic, and Bedrock Real Estate have unveiled the renderings for the highly anticipated Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center. This state-of-the-art facility, spanning over 210,000 square feet, is poised to become one of the world’s largest training centers.
Developing Downtown Cleveland
Situated along the Cuyahoga River in downtown Cleveland, the center will focus on enhancing athletes’ overall performance, while also serving as the new home for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Designed by the renowned architectural firm Populous, the center is the first vertical development in Bedrock’s pioneering Cuyahoga Riverfront Master Plan, a $3.5 billion vision to transform 35 acres of the riverfront, prioritizing accessibility and sustainability.
“This project is the first step in creating a more vibrant and growth-oriented neighborhood, transforming the look and feel of downtown,” said Dan Gilbert, Cleveland Cavaliers Chairman and Bedrock Founder & Chairman. “We are grateful to our partners at the city of Cleveland and the Cleveland Clinic for their support with this very important and exciting project that will ignite our new vision for the riverfront.”
The Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center represents a substantial investment in the long-term sustainability and success of the Cavaliers franchise. Koby Altman, Cavaliers President of Basketball Operations, emphasized the significance of the center.
“The vision and functionality of this state-of-the-art facility will be a generational game changer for the Cleveland Cavaliers. The overall investment in this project speaks to how much the franchise prioritizes the well-being of our players, while also delivering exceptional resources to enhance their skills to an elite level.”
The center will offer comprehensive care for athletes of all levels, providing access to testing, high-tech training equipment, and expert professionals from various specialties, including orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, cardiology, pulmonology, exercise physiology, neurology, nutrition, psychology, and genetics.
“This project will not only enhance the landscape of Cleveland but will also provide new approaches and applications to improve the health of our community through multidisciplinary care for patients of all athletic abilities,” said Tom Mihaljevic, MD, CEO and President and Morton L. Mandel CEO Chair, Cleveland Clinic.
The architectural design, led by Populous Studio in collaboration with the Cavaliers and Bedrock, was inspired by three principles: embracing the river, creating a local icon, and elevating the athlete’s experience. With a public kayak launch point and proximity to the Gateway Sports Complex and Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, the center aims to bring renewed energy and beauty to downtown Cleveland.
Pending approval, groundbreaking on the Cleveland Clinic Global Peak Performance Center is anticipated before the end of 2024.
